Objectives: This study was investigated 1)the recognition of pit and fissure sealant and 2)isolation techniques before applying a dental sealant using by dentists and dental hygienists and 3)changes after a dental sealant covered by the national health insurance. Methods: A self-report survey was conducted on 104 dentists and 155 dental hygienists working at clinics and hospitals from September 19 to November 16, 2012. The data were analyzed through frequency analyses, chi-square test by using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program, and the statistical significance level was considered as α=0.05. Results: The rates of the cases using rubber dam isolation were turned out to be 38.5% among the dentists and 23.9% among the dental hygienists(p<0.05), and 72.7% pedodontist and 22.5% non-pedodontist(p<0.05). The less experience dentists preferred to use rubber dam(p<0.05), and the dental hygienists with more experience were found to prefer rubber dam(p<0.05). As changes after dental sealants covered by the national health insurance., 75.8% of the pedodontists and 42.3% of the non-pedodontists answered that “increased”, which showed a meaningful difference(p<0.05). The number of applying dental sealants by dental hygienists were also increased(41.4%) especially dental hygienists with 10-year career(p<0.05). Conclusions: The increasing demands on pit and fissure sealant applications can effectively prevent dental caries that could lead economic benefits and improving quality of life. In order to minimize a gap in applying a dental sealant between clinicians, a proper guidance for isolation technique when putting a dental sealant need to be set.
