The purpose of this study is to investigate the phenomenon of an increasing number of Gen Z in China wearing traditional Hanfu clothing and analyze its significance. Literature and qualitative research were adopted as methods of research in this study. Through the literature research, we studied the concept of Hanfu, the changing designs through the ages, the current status of modern Hanfu, and the characteristics of Gen Z in China, which include the explicit attributes of "strong national patriotism", "high network dependence" and the intrinsic characteristics of a "strong tendency to seek individuality". Based on these characteristics, this study analyzed and proposed the significance of Hanfu wear among Gen Z in China through in-depth interviews. In summary, the results of the study show Hanfu wear to have an external collective significance and internal personal significance. Factors for the collective significance include strengthening national centripetal force and increasing social cohesion, which can also be viewed from the perspective of government policy, national spirit, and cultural identity; however, the personal significance derives from the generation"s personal needs under the diversified and inclusive aesthetic of Hanfu wear. There is a strong correlation between the significance of Hanfu wear among Gen Z in China and the generation"s characteristics. The results of this study provide basic data for the follow-up research on the aesthetic orientation of Gen Z in China and contribute to the positioning of fashion brands entering China.
