Ordoliberalism broadens the scope of economic analysis to include philosophical and political issues such as the type of society we want to live in and the “preferences” and “values” we should give precedence to. By doing so, it accepts the notion of PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics). As a result of the realization that the tools and approaches from all three disciplines are required to advance on many social problems, we are currently witnessing a reintegration of these disciplines in the shape of a convergent research agenda. The major objective of contemporary ordoliberalism cannot be the development of policies for preconceived economic aims. Ordoliberals must instead think about how to organize and improve the caliber of public discussion on the goals themselves. In order to contribute to a more informed democratic discourse, modern ordoliberals should be scientifically oriented, open to normative arguments, and well-equipped with enough humility to admit their own ignorance. Only then can ordoliberalism become a persistent tradition. There should be more comparative studies that focus on German economic policies for this reason. To highlight the complex features of German economic institutions formed in ordoliberalism, it is crucial to compare them to their Anglo-American counterparts on the relevant themes. German studies must be based on ordoliberalism, and theoretical and applied discourses must coexist. Making the most of ordoliberal practicality will enable the development of the national economy as well as a sophisticated society.
