The Mid-late Ming Dynasty(1436—1644), in which Lu Shiyong(1591?—1642?)lives, enjoys some new characteristics in terms of politics, economy, and cultural trend. Factors such as the political ecology, the imperial examination system, the Economic situation, the social form, and academic atmosphereleaveandeep imprint on LuShiyong. The complex and ever-changing social environment impose a deep influence on Lu Shiyong’s creative motivation, his evaluation of Qu Yuan(340B.C. -278 B.C.), his research method, and even the dissemination of his works.Lu Shiyong’s studies of Chuci are mainly embodied in his love for the State of Chu (circa 1030–223 BC), his enriching of the studies of Chuci, and the expressing of his emotion. Lu Shiyong’s pays more attention on Qu Yuan’s loyalty to the ruler of the State of Chu and his patriotism encoded in Chuci, in terms of evaluating Qu Yuan’s personal morality. Lu Shiyong is good at researching Chuci via the method of studying the Classics, and makes exegesis to Chuci in reference to the Confucian Analects, and seeks to “make clear of all forced analogies” in terms of the study method of Chuci.
