An important narrative in Lee Ki-baek"s Korean historical narrative is the process of expansion of social dominant/leading power. In this narrative, “despotism” and “nobility” are important concepts, but they were not clearly defined, which caused controversy. Specifically, contradictions between the overall narrative structure and specific expressions are confirmed. Despotism was a subject of avoidance in the expansion narrative of the dominant/leading power but was expressed as stability and development in individual narratives. The absence of a conceptual definition was pointed out as the cause for the contradiction. Although Lee Ki-Baek tried to make up for deficiencies in the concept by quoting modern intellectuals such as Yu Kil-Chun and An Hwak, but still there were misunderstanding and misreading. Yu Kil-Chun"s concept of despotism did not correspond to Lee Ki-Baek"s concept because it meant a reign of terror without laws and regulations since Montesquieu. An Hwak"s concept of nobility is a special political form of the Heian period in Japan borrowed by Naito Konan, and it refers to a maternal relative that transcends the monarch and seizes power similar to aristocratic politics, so this also does not correspond to Lee Ki-Baek"s concept.
