The author organized several online and offline exchange meetings connecting university students in Japan and Korea. Some were part of classes, whereas others were not. However, those who were not part of the classes were free to participate. This study aims to clarify the extent to which spontaneous exchanges among the participating students of Universities B and K continued after online and offline exchange meetings were held six times from FY2021 to FY2022 and the reasons for these exchanges, and use the results to improve future exchange meetings. Six students (four from University B and two from University K who responded to the questionnaire survey regarding their continued interaction after the event were interviewed, and their responses were analyzed using the Steps for Coding and Theorization (SCAT) method. The results revealed that "students" situation," "psychological state (how much they want friends)," "students" personalities," and "common interests," are the factors that determine the continuation of spontaneous interaction among students even after the end of an exchange meeting, rather than whether the meeting is online or offline, or whether it is part of a class. The results revealed that when students met a person with whom they shared these criteria, they continued to interact. In the past, we created a questionnaire in advance that included hobbies and issues they wanted to discuss and created pairs and teams to interact with. However, we expect that by reviewing and improving the questionnaire items in advance, as many students as possible will continue to interact with each other after an exchange event.
