In this study, we investigate the characteristics of tourism souvenirs with regional symbolism and practicality through various case studies, and consider varied characteristics of textile-based souvenir products embodying the image of Busan, a representative tourist city in Korea. We discovered that regional souvenirs should go beyond the existing production with a craft character by small businesses and should move towards designs young people also favor, and that more focus should be placed on consumer-oriented product development. In the production of souvenir products, the main materials were diverse-textiles, ceramics, metals, woods, paper, and complex fusion materials. Among them, ‘fiber’ has various characteristics and potential for future development thanks to its technical and materialistic possibility. In textile souvenirs, practical, material, design-oriented, cultural, and eco-friendly elements were found. These characteristics were then analyzed by classifying the companies and products selected by the ‘10 Busan Souvenirs Council’ conducted in 2019, into textile character dolls, fashion and accessories, and life and office supplies. The analysis result showed that most of the textile souvenirs in Busan were designs that reinterpreted the symbolic images of the city. The first and second rounds of textile souvenirs were represented as various products and platforms with practical, material, design, and cultural elements. We also felt the need to improve on eco-friendly materials and projects. In addition, there was a lack of information and publicity for the second-round products in 2022 compared to those of 2019, revealing the need to further activate and develop the online platform. Through such further study, it is expected that varied characteristics of textile souvenirs in Busan will be defined, and more improved textile souvenirs will contribute to the Busan tourism industry in various directions and will lead to organic incorporation of research.
