Objectives: This study examined outpatients with disabilities at the Jeonbuk National University Dental Hospital’s Regional Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities to provide fundamental data for efficient resource allocation and operation. Materials and Methods: Electronic medical records of outpatients at the Jeonbuk Regional Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities between January 2018 and December 2022 were analyzed. Results: The study included 2,166 patients, with males outnumbering females by 1.6 times. The largest age group was 40 - 60 years (24.8%), and Jeonju (46.6%) was their primary residence. Regarding medical expenses, the most represented group comprised patients with severe dental disabilities without basic living support (37.6%), followed by basic livelihood patients (37.2%). With an increasing trend over the years, 28% of patients underwent general anesthesia. Intellectual disorder (28.5%) was the most prevalent, followed by physical disability (25.7%), and disability of brain lesions (17.9%). The most common dental treatments were restorative (1.68 per patient), prophylactic (1.31 per patient), and extractions (0.86 per patient). Conclusion: These findings underscore the need for a multidisciplinary approach, specialized facilities, and supportive policies for the effective operation of the Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities. Considering the observed trends, establishing a specialty in special care dentistry may be an option.
