This study examined the impact of college students" participation in local programs on their perceptions of population decline and local extinction. The quantitative study used paired t-tests to analyze changes in perceptions before and after program participation, while the qualitative study derived results by analyzing open-ended questionnaire responses. The findings revealed that after participating in the program, trainees" understanding of local resources and culture, as well as their positive attitudes toward local creator, significantly increased. This participation positively influenced their regional engagement and perceptual changes. Additionally, trainees gained new experiences and insights through interactions with the local community. These results emphasize the potential of college students in addressing the crisis of local extinction and contributing to regional revitalization. The study suggests that college-centered local programs can have a positive impact on communities and underscores the importance of youth involvement in combating local extinction and promoting community development. This research is expected to provide valuable information for establishing policies and educational strategies for sustainable community development.
