With the evolving military food service environment, the autonomy of unit-level meal planning has increased, leading to longer administrative hours and potential disparities in meal quality due to differences in menu planning. To enhance the feeiciency of standard military meal planning, an automated meal planning methodology was researched. To verify its validity, a survey was conducted among nutritionists, and technical statistical analyses were performed comparing traditinal handwritten meal plans and automated meal plans.
The survey results showed positive acceptance of the standard meal plan pool and automated meal planning, and it was found that modifying some menus in the automated meal plans could significantly reduce the time required to create meal plans. Statistical analysis revealed that, except for protein, the variance in nutrient content was smaller in all automated meal plans, and the difference in menu diversity was statistically significant, indicating that automated meal planning provided a more varied menu. This study is expected to help improve the diversity of standard military meal plans, enhance the efficiency of meal planning at the unit level, and contribute to the future development of military food service operations.
