The purpose of this study was to assess the economic impact of the Suncheonman National Garden Cup tennis event using big data of credit card usage. To measure an economic impact of the event, input-output analysis was used because of it was widely accepted and appropriate to assess the economic impact for small events in small cities. This study used card big data to measure participants and spectators’ spending during the event instead of a survey. S card was selected to collect data because S card has 2.4 million merchants and 24 million members, 70% of the economically active population. Data were collected by setting the area around the national basic area including the tennis court for each event days in 2016, 2017, and 2018. A total of 28,490 card spending cases were collected for the event. The amount of card use increased by 1.6 billion won in 2017 compared to the previous year, but in 2018 it decreased by 1.4 billion won from the previous year. The national input-output table in 2015 published by the Bank of Korea was used to calculate the total induced production, the total induced added value, and the total induced employment from the Suncheonman National Garden Cup tennis event. A total of the card sales amount were 5.4 billion won in 2016, 9.2 billion won in 2017, and 10.6 billion won in 2018. Based on these spending, the economic impact of the event was calculated. The total induced production effect for the Suncheonman National Garden Cup tennis event was about 15.7 billion won in 2016, 17.3 billion won in 2017, and 19.8 billion won in 2018. The total induced value added effect for the Suncheonman National Garden Cup tennis event was about 7.0 billion won in 2016, 7.7 billion won in 2017, and 8.9 billion won in 2018. The induced employment effect was 93.2 persons in 2016, 101.6 persons in 2017, and 117.9 persons in 2018.
