The purpose of this study is to find out what differences exist in the ways in which the interrogative sentence speech-acts of Korean and English are realized according to gender, intimacy, and social status. For this, this study analyzed and contrasted the interrogative sentence speech-acts of both countries according to gender, intimacy, and social status, using films and dramas originally based in Korea and remade in the United States as analysis material. However, in this study, contexts of situation that are not identical or similar between Korean and English were excluded from the analysis, and only interrogative sentence speech-acts performed in the same or similar context of situation between Korean and English were analyzed and compared according to social variables. As a result, the interrogative sentence response speech-acts performed by Korean women in an intimate and socially parallel relationship, such as among friends, showed the most remarkable difference from English, followed by a large difference in the interrogative sentence statement speech-act performed by the upper social group of Korean speakers. Therefore, this article proposed to American Korean learners the necessity of making efforts to develop a sufficient understanding of how the response speech-act and statement speech-act of Korean interrogative sentences are used in actual communication to serve as a catalyst for dialogue, and their ability to use them. In addition, this article proposed to Korean language education that it is necessary to contribute to the accumulation of practical data through more active research on the response speech-act and statement speech-acts of Korean interrogative sentence, and the data accumulated in this way should be actively reflected in the development of textbooks and syllabuses for the response speech-act and statement speech-act of Korean interrogative sentence.
