The 『Buljosamgyeong』, The Three Sutras of Buddha and Great Teachers, published in China in 1286, was introduced to Goryeo and reprinted in various editions until the early Joseon period. This paper categorizes the extant versions of the BuljoSamgyeong in Korea and particularly scrutinizes the 1449 Hoeamsa temple edition to examine the characteristics emerging during its distribution and reproduction process.
Firstly, thirteen versions of the 『Buljosamgyeong』 have been identified in Korea, which can be categorized into five lineages. Among the published versions, the 8-line 17-character lineage was the most widely circulated from the late Goryeo period to the early Joseon period. The 9-line 15-character, 17-character, and 10-line 21-character lineages were circulated only during the early Joseon period.
Secondly, it has been confirmed that the 1449 Hoeamsa temple edition underwent revisions and reprinting after its initial publication. The reprinting, sponsored by the provincial governor Kim Heunji, was primarily motivated by the need to correct errors in the Hoeamsa temple edition. The Hoeamsa temple edition, belonging to the 8-line 17-character A lineage, was revised under the influence of the 8-line 17-character B lineage and subsequently reprinted. It has been observed that later editions within the same lineage generally acceped the revised the Hoeamsa temple edition.
