As the cosmetics industry develops and the number of plastic cosmetics containers increases, the cosmetics industry cannot avoid the stigma of being pretty trash as climate change and environmental issues become more serious. Research on cosmetics containers has been conducted focusing on their design, but research on how to disposal containers and awareness of container recycling is lacking. The purpose of this study is to research the surveyed on 307 men and women in their 10s to 30s to examine the current state of cosmetic container disposal, experiences with eco-friendly containers, awareness of container materials and recycling marks, and perceptions of container recycling. The results showed that gender differences in disposal methods: men mostly discarded containers as general waste, while women tended to separate them for recycling. Women were three times more likely to have used eco-friendly containers than men, but 30.6% of participants said they didn’t know whether they had used them or not, indicating a low level of interest in containers. Satisfaction with eco-friendly containers was high at 80.3%, and curiosity about new containers was the main reason for their use (60.7%), rather than environmental issues. Only 45.3% of respondents recognized recycling marks on cosmetic containers, and just 16.3% knew the recycling grade mark. The study suggests that while there is interest in recycling cosmetic containers, there is a lack of information about materials and recycling marks, which should be addressed in future cosmetic container recycling and resource circulation policies to help the cosmetics industry become more eco-friendly.
