This paper is to review the academic works on modern Korean history published in 2022 and 2023 in Korean. In general, There were several features in the research trends. First of all, there are a few works to adopt new methodology using the big data. At second, most of works succeeded in former trends in modern Korean history research.
The new tendencies were found partially, like the broadening the perspective in world history and extension of the time and space. In particular, several works on the issues in the late 19th century and the early 20th century were paid attention because the authors tried to analyze the topic from the perspective of world history. It might be helpful to understand Korean history issues through more objective eye.
In addition, the period historians covered was extended until the 1980s. It is very crucial for historians in spite of the shortage of raw materials, since the period could be working as an origin of South Korea today. No one could ignore that a lot of issues these days were started from the 1980s. New perspective from the ecological environment should reserves attention too. These new trends mean that a new approach and historiography which describe the world from a new normal should be needed to reflect great transition in the 21st century in Korea as well as in the world.
