The Korean East Asian academic community, where over 1,000 papers have been published over two years, is something to be proud of. However, I ask whether the special characteristics or defining trends of the academic field of East Asian studies in Korea can be found in its quantitative and qualitative growth. Publishing a paper in a journal and giving a conference presentation are two completely different things and require different skills. Through presentations given at conferences, a sense of community and exchange must be created between myself and other researchers. Presenters choose a topic that can be discussed with other researchers, and several researchers share an exchange centered on the topic through a series of presentations and discussions. There is also another way besides conference presentations. We can use the “review and prospectus” of the YOKSA HAKBO . As the stories of each other gather and accumulate, I think the common parts and trends of our academic world will naturally be revealed. It is expected that an academic field will form only when a sense of community and exchange is developed by individual researchers communicating with each other through conference presentations, not just papers published in academic journals.
