This paper aims to explore the spatiality of non-projective existence manifested in Samuel Beckett’s oeuvre. For Heidegger, the spatiality (Raumlichkeit) discloses Dasein(human beings)’s Being(Sein) through the relation of Dasein to the space. Dasein’s spatiality is characterized by taking the form of distance removal and giving them directionality. However, the protagonists in Beckett’s oeuvre are alienated without having any relationship with the space they are in. From the vast stage space to the reduced stage space, Beckett’s stage spaces are filled with despair without giving Dasein the meaning of Being. In other words, Dasein doesn’t establish his(her) existence in relations with its environment(Umwelt) and experiences the loss of his(her) possibility-for-Being. Thus, this study aims to explore the spatiality of the non-projective existence lacking its possibility-of-Being in Beckett’s oeuvre. For that purpose, this paper defines, first of all, I would like to define the spatiality of the non-projective existence and then examine the spatiality of the non-projective existence revealed in Beckett’s early and later stage dramas.
