The purpose of this study was to analyze elementary school students' attitudes towards animals, and to determine how these attitudes relate to and affect attitudes towards species diversity conservation. Data were collected from 229 elementary school students in Seoul, measuring their attitudes towards animals (biophobia, biodisgust, aesthetic attitudes, ecological attitudes, and utilitarian attitudes) and their attitudes towards species diversity conservation. The results indicated that cats and pandas were associated with high aesthetic attitudes, which also corresponded with high species diversity conservation attitudes. Conversely, mosquitoes and cockroaches showed high levels of biophobia and biodisgust, which were associated with low species diversity conservation attitudes. For bees and earthworms, high ecological and utilitarian attitudes were found, which also correlated with high species diversity conservation attitudes. Multiple regression analysis revealed that utilitarian and ecological attitudes significantly impact species diversity conservation attitudes.
