(Purpose) Jeju 4‧3 was a tragic incident that occurred amid the complicated structure of conflicts during the US military occupation just after our emancipation from the Japanese military occupation. The incident has many implications in the Korean contemporary history. Although we should pay attention to the historical incident or Jeju 4‧3, few preceding studies have researched empirically into the influence of the incident over the younger generation's perception of peace, human rights and other values. Thus, this study aims to examine the influence of the education about Jeju 4‧3 over elementary students' perception of peace and human rights. (Design/methodology/approach) This study reviews the conditions of the education about Jeju 4‧3 that has been conducted as a non-curriculum process in Jeju Province, and thereupon, conducted a questionnaire survey for the elementary students. Thereupon, the researcher used the multiple regression analysis to analyze the factors of the education of Jeju 4‧3 affecting the elementary students' perception. (Findings) First, while the perception of and concern with the incident influences subjects' perception of peace positively, the actual damages due to the incident and the education do not have any significant positive effect on subjects' perception of the human rights. Secondly, such factors as actual damages, perception and concern have a positive significant influence over subjects' perception of the human rights. Thirdly, such factors as frequency of education, need for a formal school education and participation in the memorial event have a positive significant influence over subjects' perception of peace and human rights. In conclusion, it has been confirmed that the education about the Jeju 4‧3 education has some significant effects on subjects' perception of peace and human rights. (Research implications or Originality) This study has confirmed that the education about Jeju 4‧3 has some significant influence over elementary students' perception of peace and human rights. Based on such results, the researcher has suggested the need for the education about Jeju 4‧3, together with some methods of helping enhance elementary students' perception of peace and human rights.
