This study examines the phenomenon of women's higher support for President Moon Jae-in than men's from late 2018 until the end of his term in May 2022 by analyzing this trend through the lens of the modern gender gap. Using the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition method, we identify policy attitudes toward environmental issues, the Korea-US alliance, and feminism as key factors widening the gender gap in President Moon's approval ratings. In particular, the significant explanatory power of attitudes toward feminism may be attributed to the salience of gender conflict during the Moon administration. Furthermore, evaluations of housing policy were found to widen the gender gap in support for President Moon, while perceptions of the national economic situation appeared to narrow it. Interestingly, the gender gap diminished among those who supported third parties other than the Democratic Party and the People Power Party, or those who were not affiliated with any party, indicating a relationship between the gender gap in support for President Moon and political polarization between the major parties. This study contributes to gender politics research by investigating whether the modern gender gap, which has become apparent in South Korea since 2010, is also reflected in presidential support and by analyzing the factors that contribute to such a gap.
