This study attempts to establish a relationship between ballet and its con- temporaries as it has developed and maintained its identity among the fine arts. It aims to explore the value and potential of ballet in the context of con- temporary art, and to explore its artistic and social roles beyond its privileged status and unique beauty. Rather than approaching ballet critically as a classical art form that has been firmly established over time, this study assumes that ballet is an art form that has established key characteristics: technique, expressiveness, repertoire, and ballerinas (dancers). With these established characteristics, ballet is not a conservative art that always stays in the same place, but rather a fluid art that has the potential to be processed and used in a variety of ways. When approached from this perspective, ballet is transformed from a tradi- tional, group-centered art that stays in one place without change to an estab- lished artistic system that pays attention to the individual who dances and re- ceives it. From the collective to the individual, the fixed main elements of bal- let transform when we consider the specificity of the individual, which has been overlooked in ballet. The pluralistic nature of contemporary art is partic- ularly evident in ballet, which is a group art form, as it moves toward the ex- pression and respect of individuality.
