This study investigated the impact of implicit beliefs of willpower on the mathematics learning of middle school students.
For this investigation, 392 middle school students completed questionnaires that included self-regulation, implicit beliefs of willpower, and academic procrastination in math learning. The results were as follows: First, self-regulation and implicit beliefs of willpower had significant correlations with academic procrastination. Second, the hierarchical regression analysis results showed that self-regulation moderated the mediating effect between implicit beliefs of willpower and academic procrastination behavior. Therefore, to decrease academic procrastination, it is necessary to improve implicit beliefs of willpower and to promote academic self-regulation strategies. The implications and limitations based on these results were discussed, along with some suggestions.
