Korea has set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and implemented various policies to achieve them, but the achievement of the targets is still realistically impossible. Universities, in particular, emit the second-largest amount of greenhouse gases after hospitals, and their energy consumption continues to increase more than that of other building types despite increasingly stringent regulations. This is because university constituents do not directly benefit from greenhouse gas reduction and energy conservation efforts and because universities, as educational institutions, have limited power to regulate their constituents’ energy use. Therefore, to establish a sustainable campus development plan tailored to user characteristics, this study aims to analyze the awareness of university students, who are the key users, on climate change response and greenhouse gas emission reduction. The results are as follows: First, it was confirmed that students recognize the importance of their efforts in responding to climate change and believe they can lead changes themselves. Second, students felt that providing an environment that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use is essential for creating a sustainable campus. Third, students considered changing user behavior related to energy consumption as a critical strategy for reducing greenhouse gases, and the degree of importance of this varied by grade.
