PURPOSE: This study identifies the kendo research trends as from publications in the academic journals and thereby presents the direction of future kendo research.
METHODS: This study used the statistical program of RStudio for Mac to collect, visualize, and present its research topic and keywords.
RESULTS: A summary of the kendo research trends suggests gradual quantitative growth and topical diversification. Moreover, it shows the emergence of new topics. In research orientation, the relationship between the type of instruction as demonstrated by instructors and athletes, the satisfaction as experienced by participants of sport for all etc. counted as major topics. By academic field, physiology, psychology, and sociology took up the greatest portion of the research as was found mainly in The Journal of Korean Society of Sports Science and The Journal of Korean Alliance of Martial Arts. Statistical processing most frequently employed the tests such as analysis of difference and t-test, while other various statistical procedures such as bootstrapping and Sobel Z test were also used.
CONCLUSIONS: Major topics for further studies include the testing of consistency for referees (review and evaluation), the development of study models, real-time match analysis with computer programs, meta-analysis of kendo research, and systematic literature review.
