This study aims at the establishment of the standard colors for
apartment house exteriors. As the standard colors for apartment house
exteriors, the 53 dominant colors and the 155 subdominant colors which
are picked out by the statistical methods of "ranking method of color
frequency" that uss the concept of free color and restrictive color
and "decreasing method of color differences" to the result of the actual
color measurement of 135 apartment house exterior, are presented.
The results of this study are as follows :
1)By "ranking method of color frequency", totally, the 22 dominant colors
and the 76 subdominant colors are selected. They include the 19 dominant
colors and the 36 subdominant colors which are restrictive colors of
which the frequency is over three and the 3 dominant colors and the 40
subdominant colors which are free color of which the frequency is over
two. Most of them are warm color with high value and low chroma.
2) In case of the 53 dominant colors and the 130 subdominant colors
selected by "decreasing method of color difference", more variable color
distribution appears and cool colors and neutral colors are more and
colors with lower value and lower chroma increase than in case of standard
colors selected by "ranking method of color frequency".
