'This study aims to investigate the characteristics of Kim Choon300' s criticism of poems and the significance of them in the history of korean modem poetry. This study starts on the presupposing that Kim Choon-Soo's criticism of poems is related to the logic of poem writing.
Kim Choon-Soo emphasizes the speciality of the language of poetry. It is not the matter what message does a poet express in a poem but the matter how can he produce a new form that Kim Choon-3oo is interested in. He considers "consciousness of form" and understanding of techniques of writing as motivation of new modem poetry.
Kim Choon-Soo's "pure poem" pursues free language which destructs the connection of signifie-signifiant in ordinary language and prosaic language. When a poet does not intend to account an 'idea' with language, only 'language' and 'images' become primary substances in a poem. Then the "poem of no sense" has the possibility of 'enlargement of sense' or 'production of new sense'.
When Kim Choon-Soo proposes that the "poem of no sense" achieves the "cosmic unification" by the "dialectic sublation", however, his planning is confronted with a conflict which is not in harmony with his starting point. His "pursuit of utopia" can not be put together with the "attitude of enjoying".
Kim Choon-Soo's criticism of poems has a significance in that they have the possibility of producing 'enjoying of language' which is lacking in the history of korean modem poetry. But as soon as he imposes the excessive mission of the "dialectic sublation" on language of poem, his logic has the danger of rupturing.
