The purpose of this paper is to clarify the meanings of interrogative fact-modal adverbs of Middle Korean at the age of the 15th century by analyzing their meanings and to study their syntactic features. The fact-modal adverbs have syntactic features of co-occurrence relation with the mood elements in the sentence according to semantic features. This paper identifies the meanings of the interrogative fact-modal adverbs from those syntactic features. Furthermore it also describes the meanings of the interrogative fact-modal adverbs by studying the scopes of representation format which consist the co-occurrence relation with the mood elements. The interrogative fact-modal adverbs reveal clearly what the speaker focuses on while interrogating by co-occurring the interrogative ending. Among the vocabularies which belong to these adverb are there '엇데, 어느, 므스므라, 매, 어딋던, 하말며‘. The interrogative fact-modal adverbs have the pure [interrogative] and [rhetorical] meaning. While '엇데, 므스므라’ have the pure interrogative and rhetorical meanings, '어느, 매, 어딋던, 어드리, 하말며' have rhetorical meanings and emphasize the argument of the speaker. Among the rhetorical adverbs, '어느, 매, 어딋던, 어드리' have the meaning of an adverb '어찌' of the modem Korean language. The adverb, '하말며', makes co-occurrence relation with '-ㅅㄷ녀(-ㅅㄷ니잇가)' and represents the 'emphasis' which is the same to that of rhetorical question. It can be said that the semantic and syntactic features of fact-modal adverbs of Middle Korean at the age of the 15th century are clarified to some extent with this argument.
