Our understanding of modem literature and the history of modem literature is basically started from the viewpoint of manhood. Therefore, the most studies about modem literature are not free from male-centered viewpoints and prejudices. First of all, it is found that female writers are hardly discussed in the most studies. Even though some of discussions can be found, these rather focus on writer's personal history as a woman than her literature itself. Often, this personal history is used for the important critical ruler to assessment of her literature. In addition to these unbalanced criticism, stereotyping of female writers and their literature based on prejudice of women is also found over various areas.
So, in order to rectify these distorted views and biased prejudices and to restore the half history of literature, two major tasks are required. One is re-visioning canons with women's viewpoint. Revising canons will revise existing male dominated viewpoints and prejudices so that hidden voices of women in canons can be reformed again. The other task is recovering and discovering of women writers' literary works in the history of Korean modem literature. In depth discussions and wide studies on women's literature are needed to fulfill the empty spaces of the history of Korean modem literature.
However, there still remain some works in studying Korean modem literature with women's viewpoints. Defining and evaluating feminity, masculinity, maternity, female style of writing and extra are some of the problems that should be discussed in further studies on women's literature.
