The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of group-activity program based on sociodrama and group art therapy to improve self-esteem and depression. For this study, 5 pairs of mothers and children were selected in experimental and control group each and tested by self-esteem index, depression index. In addition to quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis was utilized to show group process and change of each mother and child. The experimental group acted the activity program based on sociodrama and group art therapy and the control group did not have any treatment. The activity program was divided into individual and combined programs. In order to find out changes of an experiment, tests of pre, post must be conducted.
The results were as follows:
First, personal characteristics of mothers and children were changed positively. Scores of self-esteem were increased and scores of depression were reduced. There was a significant difference in self-esteem and depression levels between experimental and control group.
Second, in qualitative analysis of group process, mothers and children showed the changes of different styles in individual programs. While mothers focused on family's problem, children were exposed to inside of their selves in individual formal program.
As a result, the group-activity program based on sociodrama and group art therapy changed the relationship self-esteem and depression positively. This program was presumed that it would be effective for normal families as a primary prevention program.
