This paper aims at introducing a book, titled 'The Biography of Master Kim Ryum-baek'. 'The Biography of Master Kim Ryum-baek' was published by Pyungyang branch of Tangun Religious Sect in 1924. This biography was based on materials which collected by pupils of Kim Ryum-baek. Master Kim, Ryum-baek was a leader of religious movement in 19th century, whose faith was focused on Tangun-founder of Korea. So it is very important to understand Master Kim for the history of ideas on Tangun. But there remains few materials on him. For this reason, we can not help givin attention to this book. According to 'The Biography of Master Kim Ryum-baek', Master Kim was born on May 13, 1828. His birth place was Youngbyun county and in this county there are a mountain Myohyang which was one of famous center of Tangun faith in Korea. He was very brilliant boy. But instead of success in secular world, he choose the way of ascetic practices. On the process of ascetic practices, he undei Went mystical experiences several times and he met Tangun. From this on, he became religious leader and many peoples participated in his religious movement. But in 1896, he was arrested and put to death in Pyungyang why he was wrongly accused a leader of Tonghak cult. I think there are many exaggerations and beautifications of fact in 'The Biography of Master Kim Ryum-baek', But through this biography, we can find many new facts on Master Kim and ideas on Tangun in 19th century: e.g., the year of his birth and death day, aspects of his activity, contents of his belief systems, his ideas on Tangun and a character of his religious cult. So we can conclude that The Biograph)' of Master Kim Ryum-baek' is very important records to understand history of ideas on Tangun in 19th century.
