Ray Anderson's euphoric expression regarding practical theology is impressive. He says, "What makes theology practical is not the fitting of orthopedic devices to theoretical concepts in order to make them walk. Rather, theology occurs as a divine partner joins us on our walk." As we walk on the way of Jesus Christ, it stimulates our reflection and is inspiring us to recognize the living Word, as happened to the two walking on the road to Emmaus on the first Easter. The liturgy is the concrete expression of human works for God's people. On can say that the work of modem liturgical theology has been executed in two directions: its identification from theology and interdisciplinary concomitance. Glancing at the history of lex orandi lex credendi, liturgical studies have been an independent or more profound source for theological disciplines. But the modification between liturgy and theology is not the main issue in this contemporary atmosphere of liturgical theology. Liturgy is no longer a source or an object of theological efforl Rather liturgy is an expression of faithful life and worldliness. To understand the worldliness of liturgy, new methods are needed: ancillary research complemented by anthropology, linguistics, sociology, and philosophical hermeneutics. Among those, this study focuses on three perspectives: anthropological, symbolic, and cultural. in analyzing these perspectives, symbol emerges as a common catalytic element which serves to explicate and break new ground for dialogue. Even though no exact agreement exists, it is evident that the concept of symbol-or in the terminology of sign, icon, image--has been highlighted in liturgical thought beyond denominations.
