The purpose of this study is to reveal the aspects of conceptualisation of love from the viewpoint of the cognitive experientialism and folk models. There is a limit to the conceptualisation of it in dictionaries. As an alternative, the metonymic and metaphoric aspects of love are shown in Korean on the basis of the conventionalized expressions represented mainly in many texts of modern novels.
The following two characteristics of the conventionalized expressions of love are found out: (1) They are based on physiological effects, namely metonymies. (2) They are based on our dairy experiences, namely metaphors.
With this study, we can see that the relationship of the structure and the meaning of linguistic expressions of love is not arbitrary, but coherently motivated by our embodiment and everyday experiences.
