In Songshu and Liangshu, the old chronicles of China, there are some articles telling that the troops of Baekje attacked and occupied Liaoxi of China in the 4th century. Many questions have been thrown out on whether it was true or false.
Through close examination on the articles, I have reached the conclusion that it was true. Baekje sent its army to Liaoxi in the year 385 and established the military rulership there. At that time, Yu Yan(餘巖), one of the descendents of the king Dongmyung, the founder of Puyu, rebelled against Hou-yan and attacked Liaoxi. Baekje's occupation over Liaoxi hi thought to have been deeply associated with Yu-yan's uprising. And Baekje's overseas dispatch of troops is assumed to have been activated by the request of Dong-jin, which was dreaming of recovery of its lost territory in the northern China. King Chim-nyu of Baekje was also the governor of Le-Iang county of Dong-jin. Perhaps he himself went over to Liaoxi with his army, and was killed by Murong Nong, the Commander in Chief of Hou-yan's army on November in 385.
Baekje's occupation over Liaoxi ended in failure. But it made so many impressions on the ruling class of the southern Chinese kingdoms, such as Dong-jin, Song, and Liang that they wrote it at the beginning of the articles concerning Baekje in most of their chronicles.
