The founders of Baekje came from Buyeo near the Sungari River in Manchuria at the 1st century B.C. They made Pungnap mud fortifications along the Han River basin and used earthenwares, steel arrowhead and the coins which were made in pre-Han China. They dug the cavity, put a coffin in it and made a tomb.
New people came from Goguryeo to Baekje at the 2nd century A.D. These people made stone tombs near the Han River basin. The tomb culture was changed by new people's appearance. The establishers of Baekje believed their founder Dongmyeong of Buyeo but new people thought their founder Dongmyeong of Goguryeo, Jumong In the legend of Baekje, the national founder Onjo was written as Dongmyong's son at the first. But at the 2nd century, Onjo' father was said to be Jumong. Perhaps this is because Baekje needed new people's power to struggle against Wi China.
From the 5th century to the 6th century, Goguryeo attacked Baekje. If Koguryo and Baekje had the same founder, Baekje people thought Koguryo would not attack Baekje. Therefore, the rulers of Baekje explained that Jumong was Onjo' stepfather and Haeburu was Onjo's real father.
But at the 7th century, Koguryo and Baekje allied to war against the alliance of Silla and T'ang China. In the nation founding legend of Baekje, Jumong was written as Onjo' real father again. In conclusion, the nation founding legend of Baekje was changed 3 or 4 times by the political or military influences. The nation founding legend of Baekje which was written in Samguksagi reflected the changes of such a historical situations.
