This study is to examine the relation between Orientalist art: theory and the literature of Taejoon-Lee. It tries to explain the relation between his view of literature and art theory as well as the origin of "the Joseon-style" which Lee pursued. There are Sin Ch'aeho's "Criticism on the Orientalism", Yanagi Muneyoshi's view of Joseon, and the reappropriation of Japanese colonial policy under Lee's understandings of "the Joseon-style". Moreover, it is very important that his view of literature stressed on "the subjectivity" which is transformed from Expressionist art.
As Joseon literature were being constructed, Orientalist art: theory was transformed and established into the modernity of "the Joseon-style" novel. In this sense, the literature of Taejoon-Lee will be estimated properly in the history of literature if only we can explain the complex moments and the multi layered characteristics in connection with Orientalism.
