In this study, the effect of shape functions, the search method for minimum of objective function and behavior of parameters appearing in performing optimal shape design were considered. A code for solving Quasi-1D Euler equation and 2D full Navier-Stokes equation was used for final goal. First, polynominal, local cubic polynominal and Fourier series were considered as shape function. Among them, Fourier series showed the best behavior for desired nozzle shape. Second, random search method and gradient based method -using conjugate gradient method- were considered as search methods. The random search method was superior to gradient based method in accuracy while the latter was superior to the former in the cost of computation. Particularly, in gradient based method the gradient vector was so sensitive that search process stopped from time to time. On the other hand, the random search method is stronger than the gradient based method in search for minimum. In addition, Lagrange multiplier appearing in performing gradient based method oscillated when centrai difference was used for space. It shows us that the absence of effect of viscosity affected behavior of Lagrange multiplier.
