The aim of this study is to find out what the problem of space and place shows in the case of Lee, Young-ak's poems. The poetic discourses expressed by the author are the signs specified by the poet’s desire. Therefore this study is to keep an eye on the image of 'family', 'hometown', 'street', 'room' etc. 'House' or 'hometown' of his poems is the place that the ‘Poetic I’ cannot be really relaxed in the space. He cannot but wandering, not staying in only one place. Because he lives in the time of ‘Placelessness'. Placelessness means the time that the space of 'family' and 'hometown' is collapsed because of the devastation of the communal life. Since 'Poetic I' dreams the archetypal space of the family, he wanders in the space of absence and loss. The reason of wandering is because he has the strongest desire of the archetypal space that he would like to be comfortable. The poetic space of his poems can be moved and broadened to 'street' or 'room' beyond 'house' and 'hometown'. He shows 'street' by the place of fighting to improve the present uncomfortable life. When his attempt on the 'street' is very hard, he moves the poetic space into 'room'. By menas of the 'room', he recollect the archetypal space and tries to change his life through 'mirror' in the room. Therefore we can understand that he tried to consistently find the identification of space and place in the time of ‘placelessness'.
