The French Revolution was a great moment of hope for women. They adhered to it sincerely and courageously. Supporting men in the Revolution, risking their lives, they aided, stimulated men.
Women, who by their role of nourishers accorded a particular attention to alimentary problems, were very numerous in all riots for subsistence. On the other hand, they participated in important events of which motives were political order. Women equally participated in patriotic manifestations, in great political exhibitions.
Women also played an important role in counter-revolutionary defiles and often occupied a central place in the resistance against republican troops. Many women played a decisive role, in hiding refractory priests, in combating against armies of the Terror in Vendee and in the West.
