This thesis studied formation novel of Lee Kwang-soo in relation to family romance. In the familyromance, the boy resisting his father stands against the social world. The absence of father often represented in korean formation novel has relation to this family romance.
Formation novel of Lee Kwang-soo also represents the absence of father. But in his formation novels, the meanings of the absence of father are different. In Sacrifice of a Little one, the meaning of the absence of father is the unconscious of orphanhood resisting imperialism. But in The Sadness of The Boy and Pioneer, this meaning of the absence of father disappear. Thus, while the nationalism of Lee Kwang-soo in one becomes decolonialism, that in the other becomes colonialism.
In result, formation novels of Lee Kwang-soo are reconciled with colonialism, and his family romance is subjected to oedipus structure. But formation novels in 1920' have antioedipus unconscious by way of orphanhood. The unconscious of orphanhood in these formation novels resists imperialism and colonialism, while that in formation novels of Lee Kwang-soo is reconciled with colonialism. Formation novels in 1920' represent perspective of uropia of the young in negative way.
