This paper is to find out the publishing periods of the Korean version of Hunminjeongeum (訓民正音 諺解本) in the beginning parts of Worinseokbo (月印釋譜), Volumes 1 and 2 published in 1459 (currently kept in Loyola Library at Sogang University) and reconstruct its original texts published in each period.
Chapter 2 performed the textual analysis of the Korean transcription system and the handwriting system and examined Sejong Sillok (the Chronicles of King Sejong : 世宗實錄). It is found that the Korean version of Hunminjeongeum underwent three stages of changes: (i) translation, (ii) addition and (iii) revision of its original texts, thereby establishing itself to the present text.
It is supposed that by translating the main parts of the Chinese version of Hunminjeongeum (訓民正音 漢文本) into Korean, the first version of the Korean version of Hunminjeongeum was published in book form during the period from September to the end of December in 1446, but not later than April 1447.
By translating the system of transcribing the Chinese dental sounds and adding it to the first volume, the second version of Hunminjeongeum was published as a part that precedes Seokbosangjeol (釋譜詳節), Volume 1 in July 1447, the same time when Seokbosangjeolseo (the Preface of Seokbosangjeol : 釋譜詳節序) was, it is supposed.
The third version of Hunminjeongeum is a prefacing volume in Worinseokbo published in 1459, that has been passed down on to us. By appending to the head title〈世?솅宗종御?엉製?졩〉after the death of King Sejong and by adding annotations to the second version, the third version had the lines 1-4 of page 1 established in present form.
Chapter 3 reconstructed the original texts of Hunminjeongeum on the basis of the previous researches into the 15th century Korean and what we found in Chapter 2. Section 3.1 reconstructed the beginning parts of Worinseokbo, Volume 1, which have been handed down in damaged form. Section 3.2 reconstructed the prefacing volume of Seokbosangjeol. Finally, Section 3.3 reconstructed the first Korean version of Hunminjeongeum. The reconstructed material is reduced and presented in photograph.
