The main purpose of this article is to advance a suggestion about improvement of world history textbook authorization system according to the 7th National Curriculum. For this, first of all I surveyed the changes of world history textbook authorization system since 1945. Next I examined world history textbook authorization system in the 7th National Curriculum focusing on the deliberation and approval procedure. And then I analyzed the characteristics and problems of current World History Textbook in high school. Finally I suggested the measures of improvement on textbook authorization system in conjunction with the problems of authorization system and high school Textbook. For this study, I checked lots of references and interviewed the persons concerned.
My suggestions run as follows in conclusion. First, it is necessary to simplify the provisions of textbook authorization system related and reduce the quantity of world history textbook. Second, in order to reduce the errors of the contents, the deliberation and approval procedure must be intensified under the current textbook authorization system. Third, Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation (KICE) has to organize regular committee of Textbook Authorization effectively. Fourth, the guidebook for teachers must be produced. Fifth, it is necessary to support and promote the specialized publishing company settled by subject. Sixth, All information on textbook are requested to open to the public.
