Like other absurd play writers, Harold Pinter seems to focus on "language" in his play, which causes miscommunications, ambiguity, or illogicality. This paper attempts to investigate Pinter's the triple-bill-Family Voices, A Kind of Alaska, Victoria Station-from the viewpoint of Jacques Lacan. Employing Lancan's terminology, the characters in the three plays remain in the "Imaginary," which is equivalent to Lacan's concept of the "mirror stage."
The "language"used in those three plays is fragmental, absurd, and illogical, since it is the language which fails to get into the "Symbolic," the world of the signifier and the order. Thus, the characters are the people who remain in the "Imaginary,"and at the same time, pursue to enter the "Symbolic," where the possibility of salvation may exist.
