There have been already quite a few researches the actual state and problems of art history but most of them focus on the universities and colleges in the capital area. This paper examines how the art history and practical education of provincial universities or colleges, particularly those in Honam and Yeungnam, has been proceeded and at once checks the problems as of now.
Considering the fact that art history lessons are put in colleges of art and the listeners are also students who major in fine arts, it may be not unreasonable that the most part of established and present researches focus on the majors. Here probes the desirable direction and solution at first after checking whether the education of art history has been appropriately done or not and analyzing present state of it by investigating into the art history lessons in colleges of art. And also gropes how lessons of art history in colleges of art can keep abreast with practical education and serve for the pre-artists.
In chapter 1, deal the meaning and reason for art history education in college of art, and in chapter 2, the importance and the time percentage of art history education. The universities of Yeungnam area allot roughly average 58.17% of art theory subjects to art history: 40.7% of Daegu Catholic University and 69.6% of Daegu University and etc. This statics shows that the time percentage of art history education much more increases than that of ten years ago, 1993. Each has no remarkable difference in the related subjects that generally consist of western art history, Korean art history, and Oriental art history, Contemporary art history. However, there is somewhat difference in time percentage and the subjects when they are compared with Honam area. While the universities of Yeungnam allot relatively more time to art history, Honam's assign more extensive and various art theory subjects than Yeungnam's; 47.8% of Honam University, 38.5% of Chosun University. chapter 3 exemplifies various art theories and actual process of creation psychical motives of artists. chapter 4 introduces various audio-visual teachings that could lead pre-artists to extend their esthetic senses and experiences by direct or indirect contacts to manifold esthetical cases and techniques.
This paper puts the following universities of Honam and Yeungnam as the category of study-Kyungpook University, Keimyuoung University, Daegu University and Daegu Catholic University, Daegu Art University and Yeungnam University in Daegu and Chonnam University, Chosun University, Honam University and Wonkwang University in Honam.
On the basis of research data for art history education of these universities, the paper try to offer a helpful methodology and orientation for pre-artists who major in art practice, with comparison and analysis.
