What is called ‘lady of letters’ is the symbol laurels which the atriarchism awards esecially to women writers who accommodate themselves to existing structure. The rhetoric of ‘lady’ connotes not only talent and accomlishment as the author but also class rivilege, culture, chastity, and the faithfulness to gendered labor task such as domestic duties and bringing u children. As the symbol order of language essentially is such, ‘lady of letters’ is a word in binary oosition which is oosed and conflicts to the rebellious women authors from the oint of class or gender and so on. eculiarity of the time of ‘ostwar’ ut ‘lady of letters’ in the location where it redominates over the other in binary oosition of language and suorted it. As the result, the majority of women writers who survived in 50~60’s was ‘lady of letters’. So to seak, ‘lady of letters’ of Korea was the other and roerty which strengthens the authority and narcissism of the contemorary hallic literary world established in national violence network.
However, writing of this ‘lady of letters’, can be read as a kind of text which, although it does not disobey atriarchal social order from the front, often sneers, dissolves, betrays and damages it from the back side or from the deths of it. According to the sincerity of contents of the treachery, accomlishing level as woman literature comes to be high. This might be one evidence which demonstrates that woman’s writing originally cheats the watch of atriarchal logos.
This thesis investigated the texts which were roduced by women writers who accommodate themselves to existing structure but did not serve in reroduction of it. Therefore, the novels of Han Mu-suk and Kang Shin-jae is selected as the inquiry object because they were the very writers for the rhetoric ‘lady of letters’ and their works accomlished regular quality and quantity. These authors reflected themselves unfamiliarly who comromised and survived in atriarchal system by the means of enetrator’s eye or sectator’s eye and disclosed the negative character of atriarchism.
