This study evaluates the primary alternatives of the land connectors between hub-cities of North - and South-Korea that was used already in Germany for the connection between West-Germany and West-Berlin through East-Germany.
First, hub-cities chosen for the South-North Exchanges include Pyongyang, Wonsan, Chungjin (Rajin), Sinuijoo, Hamheung in North-Korea and Seoul, Pusan in South-Korea. These cities can make two corridors : PyongyangㆍSinuijoo Corridor and Chungjin Corridor.
Secondly, the different transport modes were evaluated to find the most efficient one in terms of the total cost composed of transport cost and time cost. It was found that the total cost by roadway and railway for the freight transport is 50% lower than that by sea transport. Therefore, it is very important for the economic integration of South- and North-Korea to construct the land connector and to minimize the economical loss by sea transport. Road is more efficient than Railway for the passenger transport.
Finally, the transport mode will be constructed by stages in the consideration of the progress in relationship between South- and North-Korea. in the beginning, freight transport would have priority over passenger transport. Therefore, the railways. which is profitable for the freight transport, must be constructed first and then roads upon the permission of passenger transport by North-Korea.
