The aim of this study is to show how the novels published under the rule of Japanese imperialism took transfiguration in cinematization in the 1960s and what a function of cinema as a social discourse is about. The function of cinema as a social discourse has much to do with ideological effect of this cinema. Considering this aspect, this cinematization of the novel can be called as the cinematic reproduction of novel. The historical background had important effect on making a novel, published under the rule of Japanese imperialisam, into a movie.
It is the result of this study that the movies in the 1960s fabricated a farm village as undamaged space. The farm village is described as the desexualized maternity or undamaged rural community, which are be in contrast with individual desire, sexual desire or modernity of city, in many movies such as 〈흙〉, 〈상록수〉, 〈사랑방 손님과 어머니〉, 〈벙어리 삼룡〉, 〈물레방아〉. The farm village, setting of the movies, is pictured as the utopia of the past. Women are described as a typical korean women and their sexual desires are depicted as primitive ones, which are in contrast with the 1960s' modern city representing decadece, consumption and desire.
