The purpose of this study was to be of use for more rational, systematic instruction for students who are in-line skating players as of 2001 in middle school, high school and university, by examining the relationship of gender, educational experience and social class to the motivation of being a skating player and to satisfaction, and the relationship of participation intensity and personal training to satisfaction.
As a result of testing the hypotheses posed in this study, the following findings were obtained;
First, as to the relationship of general characteristics to motivation, gender, educational experience and social class made a significant difference to cognitive motivation, one of the motivation subvariables. The stronger cognitive motivation was possessed by the male players than the females, by the university students than the high school students, and by those from the upper class than the players from the lower class.
Second, concerning the relationship of general characteristics to satisfaction, the male players expressed better psychological, rest, social, educational and physiological satisfaction than the female players. By educational experience, the university players were more contented psychologically and environmentally than the high school players. This seemed because the high school students were in a tough situation mentally and physically due to career decision issue and more intensive workout. By social class, there was no significant satisfaction gap between the upper, middle and lower classes.
Third, regarding the impact of participation intensity on satisfaction, those who exercised five or six times a week were more satisfied in every factor than the players who did everyday. This indicated that those who took training everyday felt fatigued more mentally or physically. For exercise intensity, the players who took training for six hours or more a day expressed higher psychological, educational and physiological satisfaction than those who did for less than six years a day. By career, the players with six-year or higher career were more satisfied in terms of environment, perhaps because the facilities and environment of ice rink for practice were getting better. By personal training, the players who took personal training showed more satisfaction at every factor except environment.
