The purpose of this study was to examines the effect of Octacosanol administration for 10days on serum lipid and body composition in human. The subjects of this study were 10 normal healthy males and all subjects were involved in each test.
The Octacosanol(40㎎, 10㎎ × 4/day) was administration for 10 days. The blood collecting was done by 5㎖ per each time for 2 times before and after the case. The blood lipid profiles were measured through DT60 Ⅱ (Kodak U.S.A) by 3,000rpm. The blood lipid were TC(Tatal Cholesterol), LDL-C(Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol), HDL-C(High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol) and TG(Triglyceride). The body composition were measured by InBody(Biospace Korea). The body composition were %fat and muscle mass, WHR. The results were as follows :
1. The administration of octacosanol for short-term(10days) were significantly increased (HDL-C ; p<.001) and decreased(LDL-C ; p<.01) in serum lipid.
2. The administration of octacosanol for short-term(10days) were significantly increased (Muscle mass ; p<.05) in body composition.
In conclusion, octacosanol administration for short-term(10days) can be useful the improvement on the body composition and serum lipid in male.
