We investigated whether the gene mutation of the β3-adrenergic receptor (β3-AR) associated with sympathetic nervous system affects lipolysis and endocrine hormone during a prolonged exercise at constant load. The mean±SD of age, body weight, and body mass index of the subjects were 51.1±7.8 years, 67.9±4.2 ㎏, and 27.6±1.5 ㎏/m2, respectively. The Mva I polymorphism of β3-AR gene were determined by polymerase chain reaction¬restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Ten subjects performed graded maximum stress test with a progressively incremental protocol to determine anaerobic threshold (AT) level of eachsubject and performed a submaximal cycling exercise test at a constant load of AT level for 60 min. Analysis of the data indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups (time x genotype) in systolic blood pressure, heart rate, lactate, respiratory exchange ratio (carbohydrate and fat oxidation), triglycerides, adrenaline, noradrenaline, free fatty acid, glycerol, insulin, and glucose at each of the points (0, 30, 60 min). Systolic blood pressure and triglycerides in the mutation group remained unchanged during the 60-min exercise, but significantly increased (systolic blood pressure) and declined (triglycerides) in the non-mutation group (P<0.05). %CHO in each group is significantly increased for 60 min, and % fat in each group is significantly declined for 60 min (P<0.05). FFA and glycerol are significantly increased each group (P<0.05). We conclude that lipolysis and endocrine hormone during the prolonged exercise at a constant load of AT level are not taken influence of β3-AR gene mutation. It is suggested that difference of rest metabolic rate and difficulty of weight reduction in mutation of β3-AR gene of previous study may be eliminated by exercise for 60min.
