Applying deuteronomic repetitions to the analysis of the structure of Deuteronomy apart from conventiona1 adoption of the form of the suzerain treaty, it primarily appears that eh. 4 constitutes a symmetry with chs. 29-30. If then, the vast part of chs. 5-28 can be defined as the deuteronomic centre, which is included by the chapters, 4 and 29-30: A. eh. 4 + X. chs. 5-28 + A' . chs. 29-30. This centric part can be largely divided into three parts: A. chs. 5-7 + X. Deut. 8: 1-11 :25 + A' . Deut. 11:26-29:1 [Heb. 28:69]. The centric subdivision X can be further divided into five sections: a. Deut. 8:1-20 + b. Deut. 9:1-6 + x. Deut. 9:7-10:11 + b'. Deut. 10:12-22 + a . Deut. 11:1-25. The pivotal section x can be subdivided into three paragraphs: α. Deut. 9: 7-24 + β. Deut. 9:25-29 + γ. Deut. 10:1-11.
Moses’ intercession is reminisced in β. Deut. 9:25-29, the very centre of Deuteronomy which belongs to the section Deut. 9:7-10:11, Moses’ reminiscence and hermeneutics of all the wilderness-events centered around the transgression by the golden calf: it is not so much as due to the people’s merits as by virtue of God’s grace that the entrance of the people into the promised land came to be allowed despite their ceaseless rebellions. It can be firmly judged, therefore, that Deuteronomy had developed the very theology of justification, which provided theological materials to P as the author of Pentateuch and finally to Evangelists’ and Paul’s theory of justification. Deuteronomy emphasizes ‘humility’ in the light of justification.
